E-Flite Blade mCP-X home made canopy
I would like to see a different design from HH. The canopy is a bit old fashion.
Time for something new, such as a T-Rex 500-600.
I made a mold from balsawood.
The choice now is to deepdraw some plastic or something else!
I had a piece of heatshrink lying around. A perfect solution so I thought...
The first tests didn't get guite right and I have to buy some more heatshrink before
I can go further. It went wrong by the nose from the canopy. I think because there
isn't enough mold for the size heatshrink.
A solution can be a kind of wig unther the mold. This way the hight from the
mold is basicly everywhere the same. The heatshrink wil shrink around the wig,
so the nose wil get tigther?
The next challenge wil be glueing or tapeing the pieces together?
Follow these steps to make yourself a canopy with heat shrink.
Fitting the heatshrink around the Balsa mold.
The clamps are to force the heatshrink to shrink around the nose and back.
Heat the bottum side first. This way it is forced around the curves.
Bottum side after shrinking.
Pull with pliers the heatshrink around the nose, because it will not shrink all
the way around.
The heatshrink becomes very flexibel after reheating.
Top side.
Back side.
Sand the surface before you glue the pieces together with instant glue.
I do this around one mold for better holding and align with each other.
The inside from the canopy after bonding. Look at the overlapping pieces for the instant glue.
Side view after bonding.

The final product.
I made two acceptable canopys. The nose is the most difficult part.
The red canopy weighs about 3 grams.
The bue canopy weighs about 0 grams.
Unfortunately my scale only weighs whole grams.
The heatshrink I used is 70mm width and I bought it at: 4RC.nl
JA091000 krimpkous 70mm 1m (Sorry it is in Dutch).
Copyright abuse?
I had a email of Mario from MIA Micro-FLIGHT regarding copyright canopys and that I was copying them and trying to sell.
First of all I made my apology to Mario because I'm NOT copying their design OR trying to sell them.
I made the canopy for personal use only and I like to experiment and share this on different forums and on my website.
In fact I made the model with a T-Rex 700 in my mind (another abuse ???)
If you want to have something simulair try making it yourself (even I can do it) or visit the website from
MIA micro-FLIGHT or colleague webshops.
If you create something original and place it on the internet it automatically falls under Copyright if
you mention your name, date and product name.
Sinds the canopys are simulair with MIA but not the same I don't see any interference from the Copyright.
The Red color and Blue transparant is bought from the manufacturer ROBBE and therefore not
interferening with copyright of the color Red and transparant Blue.
The canopy is a product that already exists and is therefore not subject to copyright.
Again the design is my own and original without looking at anyone else his design.
I hereby claim CopyRight for my canopy.

I HEREBY GIF ANYONE PERMISSION TO COPY AND SELL MY DESIGN.
Im still not selling.
Reason 1: The outcome isn't always the same;
Reason 2: I can't guaranty quality;
Reason 3: The shipping cost in the Neterlands are outrageous;
Reason 4: I'm a hobbyist and not depending of selling my products;
Reason 5: I'm not looking to destroy any hobby shops.
